Why foam suits agricultural buildings specifically

Most farm and ranch structures are metal panel on purlin, and most of them are already in service. That rules out the two easy answers: a tear-off takes the building out of use during the season it is needed, and batt insulation between purlins leaves a thermal bridge at every fastener and a gap at every lap.

Spray foam is applied over what is already there. It follows the profile of the panel, seals the laps and fasteners that leak, and adds R-value and an air barrier in one pass. On a roof, applied above the deck, it also moves the point where warm interior air reaches its dew point out beyond the structure — which is the actual fix for a barn that rains on its own livestock.

What we ask before quoting

Whether the building is heated, and to what temperature. Whether it holds livestock, crop, or equipment. The panel type and its condition, particularly at the fastener lines and the eave. And whether there is a season in which the building can be out of use, because that decides whether we work from the outside, the inside, or both.

Common questions

Do you insulate metal and pole buildings?
Yes. Closed-cell spray foam adheres directly to metal panel and purlin and is well suited to ag buildings, pole barns and metal structures that need insulation and an air and moisture barrier in the same pass.
Can you spray over an existing roof instead of tearing it off?
In most cases yes. Spray polyurethane foam is applied over the existing panel, which avoids the tear-off, keeps the building's contents covered throughout, and eliminates disposal. We assess the existing panel and fasteners first; a deck that has lost structural integrity has to be addressed before anything goes over it.
Will foam stop condensation in a livestock barn?
That is the main reason to use it. Condensation happens where warm, humid interior air meets a surface below its dew point — usually the underside of a cold metal roof. Closed-cell foam applied to that surface moves the condensing point outside the building envelope and seals the air leaks that carry the moisture up in the first place.
Is this commercial work or residential?
Commercial, agricultural and industrial. Outbuildings, shops, ag buildings, pole barns, commercial interiors, tanks and vessels — not residential remodel work.
Does the foam need to be covered?
On interior applications, code requires the foam be protected by a thermal or ignition barrier depending on the occupancy and the space. We detail that as part of the scope rather than leaving it to the owner.
